Well, he may not have won the 10th season of Bravo Channel’s “Top Chef”, but he’s definitely made Maui proud and to us he is Maui’s Top Chef!
Sheldon Simeon handled it with poise, humility and grace when he heard the words “Sheldon, please pack your knives and go!” spoken by “Top Chef” host Padma Lakshmi, last week and returned to Maui, where he runs the kitchens of award-winning Star Noodle in Lahaina and Leoda’s Kitchen & Pie Shop in Olowalu.
Cheri and I are huge fans of Star Noodle and because our office is located in the Cannery Mall, we eat there at least once or twice a week. The food is outstanding and reasonably priced. We have recommended it to our clients who have purchased Maui timeshares from us at Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort and Marriott Maui Ocean Club and other Maui timeshares around the island. Everyone agrees with us – Star Noodle is an outstanding restaurant and Chef Simeon is truly our Top Chef on Maui!
In a conference call from Honolulu, Simeon said, “It was fun. It was a hell of a ride and I experienced so many things. It’s been awesome.”

He went on to say, “I came back to Maui, but then I flew to Honolulu Wednesday night to hang with friends at the Vintage Cave. There’s a special dinner there. I’ll be hanging in the kitchen with Blane Wetzel of Willows in Washington State. I knew last night’s episode would be heavy. So I thought I’d get away, forget about it all, and start a new chapter in my life.”
Cheri and I watched every episode and although he didn’t win, he finished third and you can be assured nobody on Maui is forgetting how close he came to winning it all.
Wednesday night was the 2013 Season 10 finale and found chef’s Brooke Williamson and Kristen Kish battling it out with Kristen the ultimate winner. This is only the second time a female chef has won in all ten seasons.
The 10th season of “Top Chef” had many memorable moments for Simeon. “I can’t pick and choose a favorite moment,” said the Hilo native. “There were so many special ones. Cooking at the top of the Space Needle in Seattle, eating oysters plucked from the ocean in Samish Bay. That was amazing. Taking the helicopter ride to a glacier in Alaska and riding the dog sled and being in all of that snow. I feel so blessed.”
By the way, Cheri’s favorite dishes at Star Noodle are the Vietnamese Crepe and Pad Thai Noodles. She adds that the Lahaina soup is also great and has no liquid in it. It is just noodles.
