The policy of “retroing” or “re-qualifying” a Starwood timeshare resale according to the Starwood Vacation Ownership policy manual is:
SVO will re-qualify a resale purchase with membership in the SVN network if the Owner makes a purchase directly from the developer.
Note: There are specific forms the Developer has to use in order to re-qualify the resale, but there is no specific requirement on what resort or what week needs to be purchased. There is however a minimum price requirement to purchase a timeshare from the developer in order to re-qualify the resale ownership.
The purchase of a timeshare resale at either a Voluntary or Mandatory resort can be re-qualified or retroed and receive full benefits which include exchange, StarOptions, StarPoints and Elite Status.
The procedure to re-qualify or retro your Starwood resale goes like this:
1. You purchase a Starwood timeshare resale at a voluntary or mandatory resort and have it recorded by SVO. Note: For Voluntary resorts this will NOT give you StarOptions, StarPoints or Elite Status and for Mandatory resorts this will give you StarOption benefits and II membership.
2. You should confirm your ownership of the resale at MyStarCentral.com after the sales process is completed.
3. Contact a salesperson at the resort(s) where you would like to purchase direct from the Developer. Explain that you would like to purchase a week(s) direct from the Developer with the understanding your resale week(s) will be “retroed” with StarOptions, StarPoints and Elite Status. Make sure you have this agreement in writing.
The agreement may become an addendum to your contract or you may receive copies of the documents used by the original owner of the resale to sign with your name inserted.
4. If the agreement is not added as an addendum, you should receive copies of the following original documents – SVO Notification, SVN Owner Membership Agreement, StarPoints Disclosure Statement, II Membership Application and SVN Elite Level Enrollment Form.
These documents are for the RESALE and should be copies that had been signed by the original owner with YOUR name and old contract number inserted. You will sign these documents at the same time you sign your purchase from the Developer.

Westin Starwood Right of First Refusal
Buying a Westin timeshare resale on the secondary market is much less expensive than purchasing direct from the developer because of the fact that the developer incurs marketing costs that are passed on to the consumer. It is the developer who sets the price on the retail market. On the secondary market of time share resale, prices are determined by individuals and current market conditions.
A timeshare interval should be purchased for enjoyment. The purchase of a Westin time share resale ensures that you will be able to vacation and spend quality time with your family and friends each year. You might want to think of it as vacation insurance for all your future vacations!
