Hawaiian Airlines flight schedule has been increased with the announcement of non-stop flights from New York to Hawaii.

Hawaiian Airlines announced last week that daily service from Honolulu International Airport and John F. Kennedy International airport will begin June 4, 2012.

Currently, only Continental Airlines offers a daily, nonstop flight between Honolulu and Newark, NJ.

Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian Airlines president and CEO stated, “New York is an important part of our growth strategy.”  He went on to say, “The New York area has been underserved” and added that “New York is the first in a line of eastern U.S. cities Hawaiian Airlines aims to serve in coming years.  All the big cities on the East Coast are on our list,” he said.

The Hawaiian Airline flights from New York to Honolulu are expected to add more than 100,000 new air seats annually from the East Coast.

Mike McCartney, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority said, “The new service will generate an estimated $156 million in direct visitor spending, and $17 million in state tax revenue annually for the tourism economy in the islands.”

U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii, said “The opportunities this new route creates for Hawaii residents are endless and our visitor industry will expand and become more accessible to those U.S. residents who live farthest from Hawaii.”  He went on to say the flight contributes to Hawaiian Airlines “becoming a leading global carrier.”

Hawaiian Air will operate a 294-seat Airbus A330-200 for the roughly 10-hour, 5,000-mile flights.  The inaugural Flight 50 (playing off the popular television show “Hawaii Five-O) will depart Honolulu at 3:05pm and arrive in New York City at 6:55am the following morning.  On June 5, Flight 51 will depart Kennedy airport at 10am and arrive in Honolulu at 3pm.

Hawaiian Airlines is offering introductory fares of $212 each way in economy class (the area code for New York) and $808 each way in first class (the area code for Hawaii). Prices will be competitive after the promotion, Mr. Dunkerley said.
