Each year, HONOLULU Magazine readers vote for their favorite restaurants in the Islands known as the Hale Aina Award winners. The winning restaurants were announced at a gala reception held last November at the Royal Hawaiian’s Monarch Ballroom on Oahu.
Advantage Vacation has a number of owners that have purchased Oahu timeshare resales at the Marriott Ko Olina that make reservations at Roy’s location at the Aulanai, a Disney Resort and Spa before they leave home each year for their annual Oahu timeshare vacation. They love the restaurant and say dining there is definitely one of the highlights of their vacation each year. Two of the restaurants, Roy’s and Alan Wong’s received two awards. We also have owners that purchased an Oahu timeshare resale at Lifetime in Hawaii and commented on their “discovery” restaurant last year – Azure – which came in as a finalist this year.

GOLD — Roy’s – In 1988, James Beard Award-winner Roy Yamaguchi opened the first Roy’s in Honolulu, Hawaii. The restaurant was designed around a unique experience through spacious dining rooms, an expansive lounge and Roy’s signature exhibition kitchen in full view. Roy’s also took the Gold as Best Restaurant of the Year!
SILVER — Alan Wong’s Restaurant – As a founding member of Hawaii Regional Cuisine Inc. in 1991, Chef Alan Wong has remained committed to serve as an ambassador of this style of cooking. The various ethnic roots of Hawaii continue to inspire new dishes featuring local flavors and locally grown products. Every component of the appetizers, entrees, desserts — even the drinks at the bar — are all grown in Hawaii. Alan Wong’s also took the Silver as Best Restaurant of the Year!
BRONZE — 12th Ave Grill – Clients of ours from the Hilton Grand Vacations Club at Hilton Hawaiian Village like to go “exploring” for different dining experiences and recently discovered this restaurant. They said although it was a little hard to find (they suggested taking a cab), they thought it was a great neighborhood dining spot with great food based on daily ingredients that are available. They said the service was great and the prices were reasonable.
FINALIST — Azure – Our clients commented that Azure offers a classy environment in an exquisite”space on Waikiki Beach at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The open-air dining room overlooks the Pacific and Diamond Head. They suggest requesting an oceanfront cabana to add to the evenings dining experience and festivity. They raved about Jon Matsubara’s imaginative daily catch.
FINALIST – TOWN – This lively and totally non-fancy New American–Italian restaurant is located in Kaimuki where guests are praising the innovative use of local ingredients and the hip, young, yet welcoming vibe. While some say it can get noisy, for most it never fails to delight with its reasonably priced taste of urban chic.
