Costco Maui
A client of ours arrived at the Kahului Maui airport last week and went straight to Costco – as many people do who are staying in a condo or timeshare. While they were in Costco thieves came with a remote control driving by cars and clicking the remote to see which trunks would open with the setting they had on their remote. (The Police said that these thieves conduct the auto theft by programming the remote to open well known rental cars.) Our unlucky clients were unfortunate and the remote opened their trunk. They lost cameras, laptop, cash and some personal things they cannot replace.
The purpose of this article is to make people aware that this is not a solitary incident. The police and car rental people said this is not the first time an auto theft like this has happened. I am sure Costco is also aware of this if the Police and rental companies are aware.
I feel so bad for our clients who arrive with excitement to return to their island paradise at The Westin Kaanapli Ocean Resort Villas and start their vacation with the feeling of being violated. We would highly recommend if you plan to stop at Costco after arriving at the airport and your trunk is full of your belongings – please have someone stay in your car to make sure this does not happen to you!
