As you are aware from our previous article regarding the latest timeshare scam, there are imposters posing as legitimate, licensed timeshare resale companies that are contacting timeshare owners to offer them assistance in selling their timeshare.

These imposters are using “call lists” they have gotten from the public county records of wherever you own your timeshare.  They know how to identify which property is a designated timeshare interval and call only those owners. But, timeshare owners are becoming more educated, through the media and word-of-mouth and know that paying an upfront fee to anyone who says they can sell their timeshare, is a scam.

In order to gain the trust of their potential victims, these imposters are now posing as reputable companies from the Licensed Timeshare Resale Brokers Association and represent themselves as a particular licensed agent or broker in the LTRBA.  The imposter will encourage the timeshare owner, while on the phone, to check the internet for the validity of the broker they say they are.

Advantage Vacation would like to advise all timeshare owners that receive such a call to do the following:

  1. Ask for the caller’s name and ask for the correct spelling of their name.
  2. Tell the caller you don’t have the time right now to discuss the matter, but would be happy to call them back at the number indicated on the website.

This simple action should immediately determine if the call is a legitimate one or a call from an imposter – if you are mysteriously disconnected from the call, you’ll know for sure it was a scammer!

We join all the reputable, licensed timeshare resale brokers in issuing the warning: Beware of the imposters. The best advice for timeshare owners is to never, ever pay an upfront fee to anyone, no matter how convincing they are.

Timeshare owners who are interested in speaking with a legitimate, licensed timeshare resale broker can contact us at Advantage Vacation.  We would be happy to answer any of your questions.
