Howard Nusbaum, CEO of The American Resort Development Association (ARDA), recently announced that time shares in Hawaii are growing in spite of the severe downturn in other parts of the country during recent years.  Overall, timeshares in Hawaii have fared better than other timeshare locations around the US during the 2007 to 2009 time period.  The Hawaii statewide occupancy rate in 2011 for timeshare units averaged 87% versus the 78.9 percent occupancy rate at timeshare resorts nationwide.  He went on to say that timeshares in Hawaii are expected to grow in 2012.

Nusbaum said “two kinds of people buy in Hawaii: those who love Hawaii and those who are time-share devotees who realize it’s a powerful exchange.”  He went on to say, “Owning a Hawaii timeshare is like having Boardwalk and Park Place in a Monopoly game.”

Joseph Toy, President and CEO of Hospitality Advisors stated, “There’s no doubt that timeshares are growing again in Hawaii.  As many as 261 time-share units were added between 2010 and 2011.”  Toy added, “Last year, there were 10,201 timeshare units across the isles.”

Toy went on to say, “There is a lot of pent-up demand for travel.  Now that the economy seems to be strengthening, I’m sure that there will be an uptick in time-share development and buying.”

At this time, there are approximately 1,436 timeshare units scheduled to be completed in Hawaii between the year 2011 and the end of next year 2013, with a potential for another 2,336 units, Nusbaum said.

For anyone who enjoys vacationing in Hawaii and returns year after year, it makes a lot of sense to purchase a timeshare.  When you consider the money you can save on rising hotel costs and the additional benefits of staying in a condominium type accommodation versus a hotel room – purchasing a timeshare resale makes even better sense!  You can save literally thousands of dollars purchasing a Hawaii timeshare resale versus purchasing directly from the Developer.
