As reported in Maui News on Monday, February 22, the Haleakalā Visitor Center, located at the 9,741 foot elevation on the crater rim, closed for door repairs on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, and will remain closed for four weeks.
Summit restrooms, trails, sunrise viewing, parking, and other visitor facilities will remain open during the time the Visitor Center is closed. Park staff will be available at the summit to answer visitor’s questions and provide assistance during the repairs.
Back country permits and visitor information will be available at the Headquarters Visitor Center, located at the 7,000 feet of elevation.
The Headquarters Visitor Center, located at the lower elevation, just re-opened after several months of seismic and structural repairs and renovations. The renovations in both visitor centers were funded by entrance fee dollars.
