One of Maui’s most popular events, World Whale Day (formerly known as “Whale Day”) is a free, all-day celebration that honors the humpback whales that come to Maui each winter.

Newly expanded, World Whale Day begins at 9 am with Maui’s Parade of Whales, followed by live entertainment on two stages starting at 10 am and ending at 7:30 pm this year.

The public is invited to enjoy the free live entertainment by some of Hawaii’s top recording stars which include John Cruz, Anuhea, Willie K, Marty Dread, HAPA, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Nuff Sedd and Manutea Nui E.

The fun takes place at Kalama Park, across from Foodland on South Kihei Road, Maui.  Last year, more than 18,000 Maui residents and visitors attended.

The day also features great food by local Maui restaurants, activities and bouncy rides for kids, a huge “Made on Maui” artisans fair, a silent auction, environmental displays and much, much more.

As part of the ongoing Maui Whale Festival, the Pacific Whale Foundation offers “Trail of the Whale” with free whale information stations that are open daily and available to all.

Pacific Whale Foundation naturalists and volunteers will be stationed at three locations along Maui’s coast to help you locate whales from shores. They’ll share with you the best techniques for spotting these amazing marine mammals from Maui’s shorelines, they have binoculars and scopes available to help you get a better view, along with models and marine artifacts for hands-on exploration. You’ll also get answers to your questions about whales, geography and natural history.
