We reported recently about clients of ours who arrived at the Kahului Maui airport and went to Costco on the way to their timeshare at Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas. Many timeshare owners at Marriott Maui Ocean Club, Kaanapali Beach Club and other vacationers to the island often do this after leaving the airport.

As reported, while they were in Costco car thieves drove by their car, clicked a remote and were able to access their car trunk and steal cameras, a laptop, cash and several personal items that cannot be replaced.
The thieves are able to conduct the auto theft by programming their remote controls to open well known rental car models. This is not the first time auto thieves have done this at Costco.
Advantage Vacation would like to alert everyone who is considering renting a car while enjoying their vacation on Maui, to ask the car rental agencies for cars that do NOT have keyless or remote control access to their car trunks.
If the car rental agencies are unable to accommodate this request, we would advise all guests and visitors who are planning on stopping at Costco on their way to their vacation destination, to have someone stay in your car in order to assure that nothing like this happens to you.
Be safe and be aware – even paradise has some unscrupulous people out there!
