Marriott Vacation Club just announced the purchase of Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa Gold Coast in Australia and plans to renovate the iconic property while reintroducing it as a mixed use resort. Situated on Australia’s Gold Coast in Queensland, the Marriott timeshare vacation resort will provide Marriott timeshare owners with an outstanding vacation filled with warm, sunny weather year round.
This purchase by Marriott Vacation Club (MVC) brings the number of MVC resorts in the Asia Pacific region to 55.
The first part of the plan is to convert eight floors into timeshare villas for a total of 88 vacation villas. Each unit will have a balcony that will provide breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean or the Nerang River and mountains. The resort will highlight many design elements across the resort including waterfalls and lagoons, in addition to the resort’s pool area and beautiful white sand beach.
Stephen P. Weisz, President and Chief Executive Officer of Marriott Vacations Worldwide, said in an interview, “Our Owners and guests have long shared with us how Australia is one of their top destinations that they want to experience on vacation, and we listened. For decades the legendary Surfers Paradise Marriott has provided unforgettable vacation memories for Australian families and families from around the world. We are truly excited to add this amazing destination to our portfolio and to welcome Owners and guests to this striking property where they will be surrounded by the beauty and hospitality of Australia.”
Queensland is one of Australia’s most popular tourist areas providing guests at the resort with access to multiple restaurants, shops, entertainment districts, national parks and the world renowned beaches of the Gold Coast.
The first phase of renovations is scheduled to be completed by March 2016.
