According to the AccuWeather website and the Weather Channel, Hilda, currently a tropical storm, will graze the Big Island of Hawaii today as it passes just to the south. The storm, despite weakening, will still bring heavy rain, locally gusty winds and dangerous surf over the next few days and persisting at least into Thursday evening. Waves of up to 8-12 feet and dangerous rip currents are expected.

A flash flood watch remains in effect for the Big Island and despite Hilda’s weakening, the Big Island may see periods of locally heavy rainfall through early Saturday, particularly on east-facing and southeast –facing slopes. Flooding outside normal flood zones is possible.

We will continue to monitor tropical storm Hilda and keep you updated.
