Haleakala National Park will close the back country area at noon on Wednesday, August 5, due to the current forecast path for Tropical Storm Guillermo. In an announcement provided by park officials, the park will re-assess conditions and re-open the back country for hiking, camping and cabin use once it is safe to do so.

At this time, the rest of the park remains open which includes visitor centers, rest rooms and roads in the Summit District and in the Kipahulu District.
