Following you will find a schedule of Maui events ( many of them are free) to be held in Lahaina and around Maui for the rest of the month of August 2013.  It includes things for the keiki’s to enjoy and every other member of the family.

Friday, August 9

4pm to 6pm

The Fairmont Kea Lani will offer its first ever Made on Maui Showcase.  Free and open to all, the resort will be host to local jewelry designers, soap makers, handbag designers, greeting cards, keiki (kids) books, and more. Those looking for a snack can indulge in Maui macaroons, shave ice, fresh coconuts, chilled pineapple or signature cocktails from the resort’s award-winning restaurant, Kō. Pau hana (happy hour) specials will be available from 3:00pm – 5:00pm. Valet parking is complimentary.

4:30 – 7:30pm

2nd Friday in Lahaina –  Lahaina is especially suited for a Maui Friday Town Party because of its intimate Front Street setting, cultural and historic significance, and reputation for hosting fun for everyone in the family.

Wyland Gallery Show and Appearance at 711 Front Street, Lahaina.  His art is big: on the sides of skyscrapers, roofs of sports arenas, school walls, the U.S. National Mall in Washington, D.C., and just about everywhere in between. But for environmental artist Wyland, the last 35 years have been about making a statement about how one person can change the world. Maui Arts & Cultural Center Signature Benefit Gala – Maui Calls 2013.  Held at the Yokouchi Pavilion/Amphitheater, MACC’s signature fundraiser gala, Maui Calls is celebrated under the stars with a theme that changes each year. In celebration of the surfrider guests are invited to enjoy delectable pūpū created by chefs from stellar Maui restaurants paired with premium wines served by vintners from boutique wineries around the world. The gala includes a fresh flower lei greeting, Hawaiian music serenade and surprise musical guest as well as a chance to bid on hundreds of items from art and jewelry to golf and travel packages during silent and live auctions. The evening ends with dancing.  This event is for adults 21 years & over.  Tickets range from $195 to $500 per person and can be purchased through the Box Office at 808.242.7469.

Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents The Angkor Wat Film Festival held at the McCoy Studio Theater. The mission of the Angkor Wat International Film Festival is to showcase and celebrate films with subjects and themes that deal with the preservation of culture and environment.  This is an important focus in a world where the pressures to homogenize cultures through enculturation and globalization are seen as progress – and inevitable.  Following is the film schedule with times.  Films at 10am, 12noon, 2pm and 4pm are $7 each (the 10am and 12noon films free to keiki).  The 7pm film “Cave of Forgotten Dreams” tickets are $27 which includes a presentation by Dr. Greenberg (plus applicable fees).

Les Miserables by MAPA presented at the Castle Theater.  Performed live for the first time on Maui by the Maui Academy of Performing Arts, this epic musical has thrilled audiences around the world for nearly three decades.   Tickets are $15, $28, $40, $52, $65, (25% discount for students 18 & under) (plus applicable fees) and can be purchased on-line.

6th Annual “Seed To Cup” Coffee Fest and Coffee Bicentennial Celebration to be held at the Pa’ina Building at the University of Hawaii – Maui College in Kahului.  Coffee lovers are invited to meet the growers and roasters. Learn everything you’ll need to know to grow, harvest, process, roast and brew coffee. The day includes fascinating demonstrations, musical entertainment, taiko drummers, guest speakers, a silent auction, free drawings, coffee recipe contest, coffee granitas and free coffee samples. Coffee infused and inspired food will be available by the Maui Culinary Academy along with an historical display celebrating 200 years of coffee cultivation in Hawaii. CELEBRATE HISTORIC LAHAINA – Museum Grand Opening

Explore the new National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) exhibits at the grand reopening of Lahaina Heritage Museum in Old Lahaina Courthouse. CELEBRATE HISTORIC LAHAINA – This free event celebrates the rich history and Native Hawaiian culture of Lahaina, the most significant town throughout Hawai‘i’s history. Enjoy new exhibits in Old Lahaina Courthouse, surfing and fishing contests in Lahaina Harbor, a keiki fishing game, sailboat rides, kalo planting, Native Hawaiian cultural demos and ancient games, Hawaiian music, an arts & crafts fair, and guided walking tours. The aim of the day-long festival is to bring people to the harbor area and awareness to its many Hawaiian cultural sites. It serves as a kick-off for implementation of the IMAGINE project in creating a year-round Native Hawaiian sense of place in Lahaina. This is an event everyone in the family can enjoy!
