Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie signed a bill Wednesday, November 13, 2013 legalizing gay marriage in the state that kicked off a national discussion of same sex marriages and has continued to lead the way in the issue for more than two decades.

Hawaii’s gay marriage debate began in 1990 when two women applied for a marriage license, which lead to a court battle and ultimately to a 1993 Hawaii Supreme Court decision that said their rights to equal protection were violated by not letting them marry.

The decision by the Hawaii Supreme Court led Abercrombie to call a special session that produced Hawaii’s gay marriage law. The law allows gay couples living in Hawaii and tourists to marry in the state starting Dec. 2.

The State of Hawaii tourism industry is anticipating an increase in tourism as people take advantage of the new law.

During a radio interview on Friday, Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie wasted no time in extending an invitation to all gay and lesbian couples to consider Hawaii as a wedding or honeymoon destination. Governor Abercrombie exclaimed, “For those listening in, Hawaii welcomes you!”

He went on to say, ““There are several states where you can get married. But I think I can say without fear of contradiction, ‘Paradise awaits.’ We’ll be happy to welcome you. And if you do get married in another state, think about honeymooning in Hawaii. “

Another fourteen states plus Washington, DC have the freedom to marry for same-sex couples. The fourteen States which have legal same-sex marriage are California, Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Delaware, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maine, Maryland and Washington. A marriage bill is currently awaiting the governor’s signature in Illinois.

New Mexico is the only state that has no law banning or legalizing same-sex marriages. The remaining 34 states ban same-sex marriages. Which is still behind the times, considering there aren’t any laws prohibiting the viewing of same-sex porn from adult sites like https://www.hdpornvideo.xxx/?hl=fr and the many more that flood the internet, why should it be illegal to marry a person of the same sex.
