Whether you are a first time visitor or a seasoned timeshare owner on Maui, if you haven’t been to at least one luau then you are missing one of the most unique dining experiences that Hawaii is known for. It may seem too “touristy” to you, but even the locals enjoy the food and entertainment with family and friends. A vacation on Maui would not be complete without experiencing a luau!
What is a luau, many people ask. Basically, it is a Hawaiian party or feast with live music, dancing and entertainment.
For timeshare owners at The Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort, Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club or Kaanapali Beach Club there are several luaus located on the west side offering a variety of themes from the “most authentic” to a high energy show to the “most romantic”. There is sure to be one that is just right for you and your family.
The Old Lahaina Luau
Known as the “Most Authentic Luau” on Maui, this is a favorite with locals and visitors alike. Located in Lahaina this luau is set on its own grounds where you can experience a lot of typical Hawaiian activities prior to dinner and the entertainment. They do not have fire dancers, but their hula and music have been award winners many times. They offer a premium open bar. Make your reservations early as their shows are always fully booked.
The Drums of the Pacific
If you want to see fire dancers, this is the luau for you! This high energy show takes place at the Maui Hyatt Hotel in Lahaina and will entertain you with a variety of Polynesian cultural rhythms. The entertainment is not just Hawaiian but also has a bit of Tongan, Tahitian and Samoan influences as well. Watch them unearth the steaming, roasted pig before enjoying the delicious buffet of traditional Hawaiian cuisine. There is an open bar.
Ka anapali Sunset Luau at Black Rock
This luau takes place at the edge of Ka anapali’s famous Black Rock Point and includes a torch ceremony prior to the cliff diving – all this before the luau! They offer a delicious buffet which you can enjoy while the Polynesian show of songs and dances from Fiji, Rarotonga, New Zealand, Tahiti and Samoa entertain you. The show does include a fire dance as well.
The Feast of Lele
LeLe is the ancient name for Lahaina and the luau is set on the beach where the Royal Family of Maui would feast and entertain. Known as the “Most romantic luau” this luau is different from all the other Maui luaus. With its spectacular setting and panoramic view of the west Maui sunset, this luau is truly a dining experience. The four course gourmet menu represents a modern twist on traditional Hawaiian island cuisine with each course representing a different island culture and is served directly to you at your table – no buffet here!
