We have been in Aspen for a few days and have decided to take a day trip. The other day we went to Maroon Bells and that was a great experience so, we today we thought we would venture in another direction.
The fall leaves are still very colorful and the weather has been really great. Temperatures are in the 60’s. Who would think it would be that warm in October. Another activity that is going on in Aspen this week is The Aspen Film Festival, which I don’t think we’ll have time for since today is our last day in Aspen. We now head to San Diego before returning home to Maui.
Basalt is known for fly fishing. As we drove to the dam we saw many people in the streams fly fishing. The fall colors and the White River made for some really great pictures.
There was a man at the Wine Shop in Basalt who recommended we take this drive. Glad we stopped there. It was a great suggestion and he recommended a few bottles of wine as well, which turned out to be great choices.
The town of Basalt offers many shops and restaurants. You could spend many hours wondering through the shops. I can’t recall the name of the restaurant we stopped at but the food was amazing. It is next to the bakery just as you pull into town on the right hand side. The food and service was wonderful. I had a shrimp and cheese enchilada and a cup of loaded potato soup. Syed and I shared the soup. I would have to say that it was the best enchilada and potato soup I have ever had.
Mike, my son, is coming from Leadville today and we will take another day trip. Not sure which direction we will head in today. It is another beautiful day here in Aspen with blue skies and temperatures in the 60’s. I do want to spend some more time wandering around in the town of Aspen which is like no other I have seen. So dog friendly and great shops.
I picked up a real estate magazine in Basalt and real estate is really rather reasonable. Seems you can buy a 3 or 4 bedroom house for less than $300,000. Seems like a deal after seeing prices in Aspen and Vale or Beaver Creek. I could live in Basalt. It is really a great place. Syed asked what I would do in the winter. My response…buy a coat!
The man at the Wine shop suggested I do home exchanges because many people from Basalt go to Maui on vacation. Problem with that is I would want to be here in the summer or fall for a home exchange. I would think I would have more takers in the winter months.
Stay tuned for today’s adventure!
