Palm Springs Tram Road Challenge – For over 25 years, the Palm Springs Tram Road Challenge has been advertised as the ultimate endurance test. You may ask why is it a challenge? This strenuous walk/run follows a beautiful path, but features a 2,000-foot elevation gain over 3.7 miles. However, you’ll probably be having so much fun, you will forget all about the “challenge” part. Each contestant who completes the Palm Springs Road Tram Challenge will receive a custom finisher medal. The annual Palm Springs Tram Road Challenge takes place on October 26, 2013. Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade –If you’re looking for an unusual, fun and family-friendly event, then the Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade is the place you’ll want to be on Sunday, October 27 at 1:00pm.  The parade route will follow El Paseo, westbound, from San Luis Rey to Ocotillo.

Since the early 1960s, this festive parade has been a favorite around town. The Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade is now an annual – and highly anticipated – late October event, so bring the whole family out to enjoy the parade of lavishly decorated golf carts.

Families can experience an entire day of festive fun for everyone with a full list of activities planned for the day.  Start the day with the Palm Desert Rotary Pancake Breakfast at 8:00am.  Activities include face painting, clown entertainment, with the Golf Cart Parade beginning at 1:00pm and the awards ceremony that follows. The weekend of Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10 has two very special events happening!

Choreography Festival – If you have an appreciation for the arts, you won’t want to miss the 16th Annual Choreography Competition Festival on Saturday, November 9 at 7:00pm and Sunday, November 10, 2013 at 4:00pm at the McCallum Theatre for the Performing Arts.

This one-of-a-kind Festival features a choreography competition in two divisions, educational opportunities such as workshops and residencies and honors those who have made outstanding contributions to dance through a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The festival will also include choreographed dances by selected finalists at the professional level and pre-professional level. Both divisions will share dances under the categories of solo, duet, small group, and ensemble.  For more information: 760-340-ARTS (2787).

Indio Powwow – The Annual Indio Powwow takes place at the Cabazon Indian Reservation in the Special Events Center at the Fantasy Springs Casino located in Indio, California on November 29-December 1.

Enjoy an entire weekend of traditional Native American arts, food, dancing and singing at the 32nd Indio Powwow annual cultural event.  This Thanksgiving weekend, take part in one of Southern California’s most anticipated cultural events of the year with the annual Indio Powwow, located just minutes from Palm Desert in Indio, California.

Celebrate all weekend long with the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians and tribes from across the United States and Canada as they come together to show off their dancing and singing skills through traditional competitions. Enjoy Native American dancing, drum contests, peon games and bird singing. Event visitors can also join dancers in the arena during selected times to participate in a non-competitive intertribal dance.

Indio International Tamale Festival

Indio International Tamale Festival – A Southern California holiday tradition since 1992, the 20th Indio International Tamale Festival features every kind of tamale you can imagine, along with carnival rides and games, parades, a rock climbing wall, inflatable bounce houses and a kids’ petting zoo.  The Festival will be held in downtown Indio on December 7-8, 2013. This two-day event begins each day at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Food Network-TV ranked the Indio International Tamale Festival in the top 10 “All American Food Festivals” in the nation!
