In the recent Conde Nast Traveler’s 2011 Readers’ Choice Awards Maui and Kauai were voted the top islands in the United States and Honolulu, on the island of Oahu, was voted the number 5 U.S. city. Hawaiian Airlines earned third place on the list of top U.S. airlines according to the survey.

Conde Nast stated the awards were a result of the magazine survey of over 28,800 readers who voted for the best islands, cruise lines, cities, hotels and resorts and airlines around the world.

Maui earned another spot on the Readers’ Choice Awards with the Travaasa Hotel Hana, formerly the Hotel Hana-Maui, the only Hawaiian hotel or resort to make the top 100 hotels and resorts by tying for number 58 with Auberge du Soleil in Napa Valley, California, the Lodge at Pebble Beach, California, the Regent Berlin hotel and Swissotel Ankara in Turkey and the Park Hotel Kenmare in Ireland.

The Travaasa Hotel Hana also turned out to be the top resort in Hawaii, followed by the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea and the Trump International Hotel Waikiki Beach Walk.

The Halekulani Hotel in Waikiki tied for 36th place on the Conde Nast magazine’s list of the top 200 U.S. hotels.

Among all the U.S. islands, Maui took top honors, followed by Kauai. The Big Island and Oahu tied for fourth place, and Lanai was ranked No. 6.
